Each new day offers an opportunity to find joy and fulfillment in life. For someone like me, a 39-year-old Christian single mom, who is learning the art of self-care, cherishing time with her son, valuing her father’s wisdom, finding solace in her pets, nurturing friendships, and pursuing education, every day is a celebration of the abundant life I am cultivating with God’s guidance and blessings.

Cultivating Joy in Everyday Moments

In the whirlwind of responsibilities, I find it challenging to savor the simple joys of life. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 encourages the appreciation of the present moment: “I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.”

Self-Care as a Foundation

Having embraced self-care, I have discovered the importance of nurturing myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 serves as a reminder, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” This understanding fuels her commitment to caring for herself as a means of honoring God.

Cherishing Time with Family

Spending quality time with my 17-year-old son brings me immense joy. Proverbs 22:6 speaks to the significance of parental guidance: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” I recognize that I am human and can make mistakes, but I do my best to impart wisdom and values to my son that he may grow to become a loving human being and God’s warrior.

Wisdom from Fatherly Guidance

I also cherish the moments I spend with my father, gaining insights and wisdom from his experiences. Proverbs 4:7 advises, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.” The intergenerational exchange becomes a source of guidance, strengthening the bond between parent and child, and one that I hope to continue on as I nurture my own relationship with my son and onwards to the future generations of my family.

The Joyful Companionship of Pets

The unconditional love of pets adds another layer of joy to my life. Proverbs 12:10 highlights the compassion in caring for animals, “A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” The bond with her pets provides a source of comfort, companionship, and a reminder of the simple joys found in creation.

Nurturing Friendships

The value of friendships is emphasized in Proverbs 27:9, “Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.” Regular interactions with friends provide me with a support system, shared laughter, and the joy of genuine connections that lighten the load of daily challenges.

Educational Pursuits and Lifelong Learning

Engaging in educational pursuits at college aligns with the biblical principle of continuous learning. Proverbs 18:15 acknowledges, “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” I embrace the opportunity to learn and grow, and to discover the fulfillment that comes from expanding one’s horizons.

I am blessed to stand at the intersection of self-care, family bonds, friendships, and educational pursuits, savoring the richness of life as a gift from God. Through the lens of scripture, she finds inspiration to continue embracing joy in everyday moments, recognizing that life’s true beauty lies in the harmonious interplay of faith, love, and the pursuit of a purposeful and joy-filled existence.
